First Holy Communion
“Let the little children come to me, for to such as these belongs the kingdom of heaven” – Luke 18:16
Jesus invites all of us to be united with him in the Holy Eucharist. Children are normally to receive Jesus for the first time at the age of 7 or second grade of elementary school. As is the tradition of the Church, preparation for First Holy Communion also includes preparation for the sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession.
First Communion for Children in Parish Schools
For children in Grade 2 attending St. Michael, St. John, and Our Lady of Peace, preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion is done by the school in collaboration with the Parish.
First Communion for Children who do not attend Parish Schools
Children in Grade 2 and up attending public or private schools are required to attend 12 classes for sacramental preparation at the parish.
First Reconciliation classes start in November 2017 and First Holy Communion classes start in January 2018. Children must attend both courses for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Registrations have now begun for these classes. Please bring a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate and $35 cash or cheque to the parish office and fill out a registration form.
First Holy Communion for Older Children or Adults
If you or your child have never received Holy Communion and wish to do so, please contact Father Jason in the parish office. We will arrange appropriate preparation based on your circumstances.
