The First Friday devotion
Draw closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
What is First Friday devotion?
First Friday devotion honours the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The traditional practice is to receive Holy Communion in a state of grace on the first Friday of nine consecutive months. Adoration and prayers of reparation are ways to respond to Christ’s love.
The History of First Fridays
The devotion grew out of the revelations of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the late seventeenth century. Through her, Jesus invited people to honour his Sacred Heart and respond to his love.
The Promises of First Fridays
The devotion encourages us to trust in Christ’s mercy and seek the grace to persevere in faith. The Great Promise given to St. Margaret Mary is the grace of final repentance for those who faithfully observe the Nine First Fridays.
